The thunderstorm related power outages Wednesday morning caused problems for some people in the area. So what's the best way to prepare for the next weather event.
The Muskingum Valley Red Cross has a checklist of things to do before an incident occurs. Executive Director Marlene Henderson said that food is always a big concern, and after a couple hours without power, make sure you keep the refrigerator door closed.
"Anything longer than that, you might want to get a cooler, put some ice in, and get those, the food out of your refrigerator into a cooler. If you're in doubt, make sure you throw the food out, because you don't want to take a chance on any kind of food poisoning," said Henderson.
It's also important to keep flash lights with fresh batteries in one specific area. Henderson said the check list also mentions things that you should avoid bringing into the home.
"Any kind of heating, a supplemental heat, you know that has propane, or natural gas or anything like that because of carbon monoxide. That's a very, very big, big threat when the power's out and you bring those kinds of things into the house."
