It's Disaster Preparedness Week and a national organization is spreading the word...
The Muskingum Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross has tips for people to be ready in case of unexpected emergencies. Regional Disaster Services Field Specialist James Applegate said to have an emergency kit and to make a plan ahead of time.
"Be informed. Finding out what disasters happen in your area. What you're proned to in your particular neighborhood," said Applegate.
Many disasters are a result of the unstable weather patterns. Applegate said this time of year we can expect severe storms, tornadoes, and some areas have already experienced flash flooding.
"Well we just had flooding over in a neighboring county. And if they would, people would have had kits when they had to leave their homes, the trailer park, then they would have had that stuff ready to leave with them."
The Red Cross's website has a detailed list of ways to be prepared.
