Current 8th and 9th grade students are being recruited for a new opportunity at Zanesville High School.
Muskingum Valley New Tech Academy is a program designed to prepare students for college and the workforce. Principal Jocelyn Cosgrave said it will be part of the existing Zanesville High School, and the courses will be taught by a cohort of Zanesville teachers.
"Our students will still be Zanesville students," said Cosgrave. "They will participate in the same athletics and electives, but their core courses will be housed in New Tech Academy, which will be like one hallway in the high school."
Cosgrave said that Zanesville City Schools received a grant for the project from the Race to the Top Fund. She said students will be able to explore a variety of classes and participate in internships that relate to their field of study.
"This is going to be a great opportunity for Zanesville students," said Cosgrave. "This is going to be teaching and learning like they've never seen before. For students who aren't huge fans of being lectured all day and taking notes, this is a whole different way of thinking, where they're actually doing projects that benefit our community."
The school will undergo construction this summer and classes begin in August. Applications are available online and must be submitted by May 1st.
