One local organization sees a rise in those needing a warm meal during the first quarter of this year.
Christ's Table said they have seen a twenty-eight percent increase in those coming in to eat from the same time last year. In 20-12 over 26,000 meals were served, while in 2011 it was just over 20,000.
"We attribute it a little bit of that to the weather. It's been a mild winter so we think that people have been able to out and get to us," said Executive Director Keeley Warden.
Warden said that during the month of February donations are usually at their lowest, but so far they've been able to buy supplies. She's worried though that numbers will remain high. That's why donations, especially monetary are so important.
"We don't want to sound selfish here, but we do purchase through Mid-Ohio Food Bank. What we can buy for $10 and what the public can buy for $10 is amazing. You may think that $10 is not a lot. That might be 4-5 boxes of pasta at the store, but w can buy 4-5 cases of pasta for $10," explained Warden.
If you would like to donate food Warden said they can always use fresh or canned fruit, pasta or rice.
