Winning The Pinewood Derby

A fast car and home field advantage contributed to Knights of Columbus’ first place victory in Thursday’s Kiwanis Corporate Pinewood Derby.Seventeen cars competed in the event, sponsored by Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, at Knights of Columbus Hall, Sunrise Center. The race was a fundraiser for Kiwanis Club of Zanesville’s youth-oriented projects.Other top finishers were: Coconis Furniture, second place, and Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, third place. The funeral home’s car also receive the People’s Choice Award for best design.The event is expected to generate over $5,000 for the club, which will be used to support programs such as its annual Christmas party for area children and Special Riders, a partnership with the Carr Center to provide horseback riding to handicapped children.
