Ohio Governor John Kasich is announcing new efforts in the state’s fight against prescription painkiller abuse. Ohio saw a record number of drug overdose deaths in the most recent reporting year of 2010. Such overdoses are now the leading cause of accidental death in the state. Kasich and his health, aging and drug addiction department directors plan the announcement at 2 p.m. Monday at a two-day summit on prescription painkiller abuse in Columbus. Kasich’s office did not provide details about the new approach, but it follows several efforts by the Governor and Attorney General Mike Dewine to crack down on the problem.
