Council Approves Fact Finder's Report

The city of Zanesville and AFSCME Local 1573 are one step closer to producing a new labor pact.

City council approved a fact finder's recommendations.  Mayor Jeff Tilton said the two sides met earlier this month with State Employment Relations Board Fact Finder William Lewis.

"Both sides give out their proposals, we go through them and then we go to mediation," said Tilton.  "Finally, it comes down to the fact finder's report, and this is the way it's done.  He gives his report and we vote on that."

The issues at stake include wages, seasonal employees, sick leave, promotions, demotions, transfers and the insurance schedule.  Tilton said contracts were settled with police and firefighters several months ago.

"We still have some small contracts to do, but having the big three done will be a relief," said Tilton.

The union will vote on the recommendations on Thursday.
