Promotions for Four ZPD Officers

Some of Zanesville's Police Officers were promoted to new ranks and positions Friday.

Around 1 p.m. Friday afternoon at the Zanesville Police Department, four officers received promotions ranging from Sergeant to Captain.

Patrolman Jon McCoy was promoted to Sergeant, while Sergeants Chris Phipps and Chris Rice who were promoted to Lieutenant, and Lieutenant Tony Coury was promoted to Captain.

The new officers said they look forward to the new responsibilities that accompany their new titles.

"I'm going to have some more administrative work now than I had to do previously, and I'm just going to be trying to get everything set on midnight shift," said Lt. Chris Phipps.

"I feel very honored, I have been here 17 years. I've always worked with good officers and I'm looking forward to furthering my career here until the end," said Sgt. Jon McCoy

"I'm feeling really well, I'm looking forward to starting a new chapter in my career. I've been with the department for over 20 years now, I've always been on afternoons or midnights, so it's a nice change to get to go home and see my wife and family in the evenings," said Capt. Tony Coury.

"It's going to be a big change, not going to see my family as much which is going to be very difficult, but I've got a new family of officers here that have been on afternoon shift for a while, so I'm really looking forward to working with them," added Lt. Chris Rice.

In addition to the four promotions, Alan Etters, one of five new officers hired by the city, was sworn in as a patrol officer.

Police Chief Eric Lambes said he looks forward to bringing in new officers in the coming months.

"The new officers, we're really excited about because he's filling a position we've really needed and we have others coming behind him. So within the next few months, we expect exciting things to continue," said Lambes.

Mayor Jeff Tilton and Zanesville Public Safety Director, Fred Buck were in attendance at Friday's swearing in ceremony.
