Trooper Duerson Explains Car's Path in Crash

One person was taken to the hospital by helicopter following a rollover crash Wednesday in Licking Township.

It happened in the 8000-block of State Route 586 around 8 p.m.

Troopers say  19-year-old James E. Richard was northbound on 586 in a red Mitsubishi when he went off the right side of the road and then overcorrected when trying to come back on the roadway.

"In doing so he lost control. His car went into a slide, slid across both lanes of travel, entered in a ditch, traveled along a ditch, struck two mailboxes, a culvert, went airborne, struck a gas line marker, and came to rest back on the roadway on its' top," says Trooper Bill Duerson, Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol.

Trooper Duerson says authorities are still investigating the crash and talking to witnesses.

""It appears from some of the witness statements that we had, that he was traveling at an excessive speed," he says.

He was flown to Grant Medical Center in Columbus where he is listed in good condition.
