OVI Checkpoint to Take Place in Coshocton County

The State Highway Patrol is cracking down on drunk driving this weekend.

A sobriety checkpoint will take place in Coshocton County Saturday night.  Zanesville Post Commander Lieutenant Steven Rine said four of the last five traffic fatalities in Coshocton County were alcohol related.

"The checkpoint itself is just for awareness and education," said Rine.  "We do apprehensions there, but we put it out because we want to educate the public."

Rine said 18 OVI arrests and 32 OVI related crashes were reported in Coshocton County in 2011.  The patrol is partnering with Sheriff Tim Rogers' Office to reduce those numbers.

"We're always on alert and looking for the impaired drivers," said Rine.  "We also appreciate the education and try to relay the information.  We just want people to drive responsibly and drink responsibly."

Troopers make an average of 25,000 OVI arrests every year.  The OVI checkpoints are funded by federal grant money.
