A motorcyclist dies following a crash in South Zanesville.
It happened around noon on Maysville Pike near Coconis Furniture. South Zanesville Police Chief Eric Finley said a J&R Electric truck collided with a motorcycle that was part of a funeral procession.
"We just talked with the witnesses," said Finley. "The State Highway Patrol is assisting me with documenting the accident scene. We'll talk to more witnesses and the other driver. I haven't been able to do that yet, but once I get everything put together, we'll determine then what's going to happen."
The motorcyclist was taken by MedFlight to Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Finley said he's also investigating a separate incident involving the same pick-up truck and another motorcycle in the funeral procession. Larry Warne was part of the group traveling to the cemetery.
"You need to take one more second, one more look and give the bikes a chance," said Warne. "These are your sisters, your brothers, your husbands, your grandfathers out here on these bikes. Everybody knows somebody on a bike, and they're going to get killed. We were burying a friend today and now we have another one to worry about."
Finley said the victim's name is not being released at this time. The driver of the truck was also taken to the hospital for minor injuries. Maysville Pike was closed for more than two hours during the investigation.
