A lot of people took a dive into the pool on this July 4th looking to declare independence from the heat.
Lifeguards at the Muskingum Family Y Pool prepared for a large turnout Wednesday.
The lifeguards were kept busy with all of the extra people in the water.
"There's a lot of camps that come here, like there's a day camp, latchkey, science camp. So yeah, it's pretty busy, and I think it's probably going to be busy again today because its pretty warm out," said Lifeguard Duncan Yarnaol.
The staff said their jobs are rewarding because they have the opportunity to cool down during pool breaks.
They invite everyone suffering in the heat to stop by and go for a swim.\
"From 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. is how long we're open and it's a great place to come and cool down during the hot weather, it really is," added Yarnaol.
Warmer temperatures are expected to continue.
