Zanesville City Council heard the first reading of an ordinance authorizing city officials to advertise for bids for an upcoming paving project.
Public Service Director Mike Sims said the street department will be working to replace deteriorating sections of road within Woodlawn Cemetery on Pershing Road.
Sims said the project is expected to cost about $38,000.
"It will just be various sections depending on the worst of the worst and we have about 600 tons of asphalt we can buy with that money and we do have a decent paver and a used roller, but a nice roller to try to get those back into shape," said Sims.
Mayor Jeff Tilton and other members of council expressed thanks to Sims and the city's Street Department on their efforts during the recent severe storms.
Sims also added his own words of praise for the department.
"I think they did a tremendous job. We had a great participation and over 50 of our employees showed up for that effort through the whole weekend, and when many if not all had no power themselves," added Sims.
In other business, council members are working with Southeast Area Transit to increase bus services to citizens on the city's east side.
