Health officials announced Tuesday the discovery of West Nile Virus in Licking County.
The Health Department reports that two pools of mosquitoes collected from traps has tested positive for the disease.
The infected mosquitoes were found in Newark on West Main Street near Tamarack Drive and in Pataskala near the intersection of York Road and State Route 16.
The Licking County Health Department will conduct mosquito spraying in these areas in order to reduce the risk posed by the disease.
There have been no cases of West Nile Virus in humans or horses in Licking County so far this year.
Health Commissioner Joe Ebel is asking residents to eliminate mosquito breeding sites and take personal protective measures to avoid bites.
