Now is the perfect time to roll up your sleeve and help save a life.
Due to 50,000 fewer donations last month, the American Red Cross blood supply has reached emergency levels. Muskingum Valley Red Cross Executive Director Marlene Henderson is asking people to step up and donate blood.
"There's about half the blood supply that we need on the shelves. Booking the Blood Drives in the next couple months is going to be very important, we need to have as many people on those schedules as possible and as many people keeping their appointments as possible," said Henderson.
The extreme heat has kept many people at home, and the storms caused power outages forcing the cancelation of many blood drives. If at least two additional donors give at each blood drive until the end of July the blood supply would be sufficient to meet needs.
"We're just asking for anybody who's eligible to come out right now and help us out and it's not for us, it's for each and every one of you because we never know when one of our loved ones is going to need a unit of blood," said Henderson.
The next chance to donate is Thursday July 26th at the Colony Square Mall from 2-8 p.m. To see a full list of blood drives in Muskingum, Guernsey and Perry counties visit our community calendar.
