The dry weather might not be great for area farmers, but it's making for a strong season for the Lorena Sternwheeler.
The season kicked off with school groups in May and to date has participated in 24 public rides and various private events that include a wedding and a sixteenth birthday party.
"We feel very fortunate to have such a wonderful attraction in Muskingum County and when people ask what's unique about the area we can say the Lorena Sternwheeler," said Kelly Ashby from the Chamber of Commerce. "Not everyone has a beautiful river running through it and a way to enjoy that river."
The groups taking advantage of the cruises have come from Pennsylvania, North Carolina and West Virginia. So far over two thousand people have cruised down the river, about three hundred more than last year.
"We already have motorcoach groups booked for next year which is typical," said Ashby. "A lot of motorcoach groups book a year in advance."
Ashby said that they also continue to promote the Lorena at various trade shows to draw more attention to the attraction. Rides continue on the Lorena until October.
