Mud, barbed wire and shock therapy are expected during this 5K
Zanesville's first Wilderness Challenge took place at Zemba Brothers outside of Dresden. This race is not for the faint of heart or for those who wish to stay clean.
"Lots of man-made obstacles. Cargo nets, mud pits, trench warfare, barbed wire, substantial natural obstacles. Hill climbs with ropes, sand pits. It's three-plus miles with twenty-plus obstacles," said Brent Kemble, Wilderness Challenge promoter.
Groups of runners took off every thirty minutes through the obstacle course.
"We're a little less than 500 hundred registered runners which is good for the first time. We expect to expand that tremendously next year as you can tell i'm pretty excited," said Kemble.
Organizers plan to make the challenge an annual event. It will remain at the Zemba location, but the course will change to keep things interesting.
