New leadership is helping South East Area Transit move in the right direction.
Howard Stewart took over as Transit Director back in April, and since then, he has been working to solve the company's financial problems. On Monday Stewart provided the Muskingum County Commissioners with an update of his progress.
"We're here for one purpose and that's our mission," said Stewart. "Our drivers are great drivers. They provide great service. They're safe. We've been awarded from our insurance company several years in a row for no accidents, so it's about building that team mentality. We're on the bus together, we're heading down the road to provide service, and that's what we need to do."
SEAT is adding a new route that will service the Greenwood Avenue area. Stewart said the company is also in the beginning stages of a coordinated transportation project.
"The coordinated transportation plan is a consortium of non-profit agencies and service agencies," said Stewart. "What it does is it opens up avenues to dollars that are available at the state level for transportation."
SEAT is holding a public hearing on August 13th at 4 p.m. at the John McIntire Library.
