American flags will grace a Medal of Honor bridge in Muskingum County.
The president of the Muskingum County Veterans Council asked the county commissioners for help getting flag poles erected on bridge 719. There's a plaque on the bridge now, but to officially make it a Medal of Honor bridge, there needs to be an American flag present.
"We found out there's not a flag on that bridge period. So now the veterans having spent our time protecting Old Glory, we want to see her flying and I talked to the Mayor and I talked to the commissioners and they're all very, very receptive and it's going to get done," said Veterans Council President Bud Johnson.
The commissioners agreed to provide two flag poles, one on each end of the bridge. Johnson also discussed a way to protect the eternal flame at Zane's Landing Park.
"We're trying to get a wall set up between the flame and the river to block the air because that's been a major problem with that burner down there. The burner was set too high above the flame to start with and the winds off the water was blowing it out all the time and the gas was just being wasted." said Johnson.
Commissioners are in support of the wall being built. Plans are to place the burner lower in the ground before building the wall.
