Showing animals is a family tradition at the Muskingum County Fair.
People paraded their sheep around the arena with the hope of winning a blue ribbon. Wade Sauerbrey and his son Caden brought their hampshire sheep and a cross-bred ewe to the show.
"Eight years ago we bought two cross-bred ewes for the boys to start with, so that's how we started with sheep," said Wade. "As he got older, we wanted him to show registered sheep, so we got some hampshire sheep for him, and we've kind of built from there."
Wade said the judges look at the amount of meat on the animal, breeding characteristics and the quality of the fleece. They participate in competitions across the country.
"We go to national shows and travel the nation," said Caden. "This summer we went to Iowa, last summer we went to Delaware and next summer we're going to Michigan, so we travel the state fairs and it's pretty fun."
The father and son duo finished in the middle of the pack today.
