A small town celebrates their unique heritage.
Since the 1970's the Dresden Melon Festival has been a celebration of family, friends and the area's rich melon-growing legacy. The community festival offers a lot to do, buy and eat.
"We couldn't have asked for a better day. It's beautiful out. We had not quite 100 people in the 5K run, the course was beautiful. We're tickled, very tickled," said Mayor Dave Matthew.
The melon festival just recently regained it's popularity five years ago. Mayor Matthew says the local businesses have been very supportive in getting the festival up and running again.
"Most of it's been non-profit. That's been the core of this group. Between the legion and the sons and the VFW, we try to keep a community oriented venture," said Mayor Matthew.
The evening festivities included a cruise-in, karaoke contest and a beer garden.
