There's an opportunity for young people to get involved in the community they live in.
The Muskingum County Community Youth Foundation is recruiting new members. Adviser Juliet Lacy said students at high schools in Muskingum County are eligible to apply, but preference will be given to freshmen since members are asked to serve all four years of high school.
"We have some community service activities and events that go on throughout the year," said Lacy. "For instance, the coat drive that's held in the fall with Eastside Community Ministry. They're also involved in the foundation's Groundhog Day event."
Lacy said members also distribute grants to youth service groups, select scholarship winners and develop teambuilding and leadership skills.
"It's a great opportunity for networking and meeting students from other area high schools," said Lacy. "I know our president this year is Madison Smith, and she is a senior at Maysville High School. She told me that it's a great idea to be involved in community service."
Members meet on the third Sunday of every month during the school year. Applications are available through high school guidance counselors and at the Muskingum County Community Foundation. The deadline to apply is September 21.
