One Car Fatal Crash in Perry County

The Lancaster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a one vehicle fatal crash that occurred on State Route 188 near High Point Road, south of Thornville in Perry County.

Troopers say that around 1 a.m. Saturday morning, Ryan Whetstone, 25 years old of Rushville and Ginger Hunter, 24 years old of Lancaster were traveling southbound on State Route 188. Whetstone was driving a Chevrolet 1500 pick-up that drove off the right side of the road, struck a guardrail and went airborne.

The Chevrolet then landed in a spring and Whetstone was ejected. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Hunter sustained minor injuries and was wearing a seatbelt.

The Thorn Township Fire Department was on scene. Troopers say that alcohol is a factor in the crash and it remains under investigation at this time.
