Members of the community are coming together for a one year old boy with cancer.
Graham Sowers was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma at six weeks old and has since been through several rounds of chemotherapy and will soon undergo stem cell transplant.
On Saturday October 13th, The Vista Golf Course on Hennessey Drive in Nashport will play host to a 5-k race, a kids fun race and a one mile fun walk.
Following the races, a poker run will take place at Bogey's Bar and Grill from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Event organizer Brian Donnelly is close with the Sowers' father and said he only recently learned of Sowers' diagnosis and wants to help out his long-time friend.
"I ran into one of our classmates and she told me about the benefit and I got online and read about it," said Donnelly. "I actually lost a five year old brother right before I was born and I remember what that did to my family. I've got two healthy children so this is just kind of my way of being thankful and trying to pay it forward."
Donnelly said many people have volunteered their time to help with the day's events and said one hundred percent of the proceeds will go straight to Sowers' medical bills.
"We've got a DJ that was kind enough to donate his time," Donnelly said, "and we're going to play some trivia games and see if we can goof off a little bit and raffle off some door prizes as well, while we're waiting so it should be fun."
