Free Flu Clinic

Residents of Muskingum County were able to receive free flu vaccinations and help the county prepare in the event of a disaster at the same time.

Thursday at the fairgrounds the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department held a free flu clinic providing flu shots to county residents, 18 and older. Another purpose of the event was to exercise the community's ability to rapidly provide immunizations to a large number of people in a short amount of time.

"We can have all the plans that we want to have but if we don't exercise them once in a while, make sure that we've worked out all the bugs they just sit on a shelf and then they become obsolete," said Muskingum County Health Commissioner, Corey Hamilton.

Residents simply had to fill out a registration form detailing the shot they were receiving and stick out their arm.

"You'll drive through to an area where there's lots of student nurses who will give you a flu shot and you'll be out the door. I think our tracking time is running about less than six minutes right now so we're getting people in and out very quickly," said Hamilton.

The Health Department also held clinics in Dresden and Philo Thursday, Perry County also preformed its own free flu clinic.
