Woman Struck By Air Pellet Gun

Zanesville police are searching for a suspect after a woman was shot in the leg.

Initially, the incident appeared to be a drive-by shooting, but Detective Sergeant Harry Taylor of the Zanesville Police Department says that's not the case. He says shorty after 1 p.m. Friday, a 65-year-old woman was hit in the leg by an air pellet gun near the intersection of Brighton Blvd. and Ridge Ave.

Lt. Shaw, also of the ZPD, says the woman was waiting for a bus, and several people tended to her after she sustained the injury.

"I was up in my room, which overlooks where the incident happened, I was on the internet and I heard a "boom", looked out the window and saw the woman on the corner trying to flag down cars, and I saw another vehicle take off down Brighton." said Daniel Mummey, who lives in the area.

Neighbor Joanna Swingle says the woman stopped at her house to give her dog treats shortly before the incident happened.

"I looked out the window and she was up on the corner waiting for the bus, and the next time I looked she was gone...and they hauled her out in an ambulance." she explained.

Det. Sgt. Taylor says there are no suspects in this case, and would like to stress that the woman was struck by an air pellet gun. The woman was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Taylor is asking anyone with information to call the Zanesville Police Department at 740-455-0700.
