A rollover accident on I-70 shut down traffic for hours Sunday afternoon.
The crash occurred just after 2 p.m. in the westbound lane near mile marker 162. The Ohio State Highway Patrol says driver Timothy Hayslip from West Jefferson, Ohio lost control of his truck and camper while attempting to pass a semi.
"Witnesses stated that the camper started moving back and forth, the power unit in the camper traveled off the left side of the roadway, the camper struck the guardrail, and overturned, and the vehicle came to final rest in the middle of the bridge." said Tropper Todd Henry
Hayslip and his passenger, Susan Hayslip were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The accident littered debris all over the interstate, leaving a mess for emergency personnel.
"It poses a lot of problems." explained Trooper Henry. "Of course traffic is going to be backed up in both lanes, because there is debris. They can't go anywhere. It's hard for emergency personnel to get here, because we have to either travel in the birm, or on the median, which slows us up."
The interstate remained shut down while crews removed debris from the roadway. The Ohio Department of Transportation eventually opened one lane of traffic. Trooper Henry says Hayslip was cited with failure to control.
