Soon kids around our area will be out to collect Halloween treats.
With small children out and about the Muskingum Valley Chapter of the Red Cross asks that adults and children take precautions to ensure a safe trick or treat for everyone.
Trick or Treat safety includes making sure kids are accompanied by an adult, only visit homes with porch lights on and look both ways before crossing the street.
It also means kids should be well seen by wearing reflective tape or another method of safety.
"Take a flashlight," said Executive Director Marlene Henderson. "The glow sticks are great. Those will last the whole time that they're out trick or treating. They also work well in your pumpkin on the front porch instead of using a candle, use a glow stick, that way you don't have to worry about anything catching on fire."
Henderson said kids should also avoid wearing masks and instead use face paint so they have an easier time seeing. Trick or Treat in Zanesville is October 31 from 5:30-7p.m.
