This is time change weekend in Ohio and most other states...but it's also time to change the battery in your smoke detectors.
Firefighters across the nation use this weekend as a chance to remind homeowners of the importance of making sure your smoke detector is working. When you change the time on your clocks... replace the batteries in your smoke detectors.
"It's a good practice to keep up on. The nine volts even though they still may last longer, we need to make sure that we check them, it's just for your safety," said Lt. Doug Hobson of the Zanesville Fire Department.
Firefighters say your smoke detector is a life saving device.
"The smoke detectors have given them that early advance notice to get out of the house. I mean it's a proven fact out there, they save lives, it's definitely a great thing to have in your house."
Under a grant fund, the Zanesville Fire Department is able to provide one smoke detector to every family in Muskingum County for free. If you can't install it...firefighters will do that too.
