Zanesville Community Theatre is celebrating the anniversary of a popular 1952 movie. Sixty years ago Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds starred in the comedic musical "Singin' in the Rain". As a tribute to the original, Zanesville Community Theatre is now showing their own local production of the American classic.
"It's the story of actors from the silent film era transcending into the talkies, and not all of them have a great speaking voice, and that's where the plot lies in." explained Director Jan Smith.
In order to keep the same value as the original film and connect with the audience, the production stays as close to the original as possible.
"It's fast-paced, it's entertaining, it's got great music, got great hoofers, great comedy lines. But it brings back a greatness. Everybody grew up watching this film with themselves when they were kids, now their grandkids, and people are bringing their children and grandchildren to see the play, and it's like starting a whole other tradition 2, 3, 4 generations later." said Smith.
If you missed Sunday's showing, you can catch it again at Zanesville Community Theatre on November 9th and 10th at 8 p.m. or on November 11th at 2:30 p.m.. Adult admission tickets are $15, senior and student tickets are $10, and children up to 12-years-old get in for only $5.
