Fourth grade students got a taste of the isles Monday at Secrest Auditorium.
850 students from county and city schools were treated to a concert by Road to the Isles. The event features Irish step dancing, bagpipes and traditional music.
"They don't get much exposure to the arts and that's why we feel the Zanesville Concert Association Foundation provides this privilege for them," said Zanesville Concert Association's Barbara White.
Road to the Isles has been performing since the 1980's and while their concert Sunday was geared to adults this concert was shorter and featured some songs aimed to children. Two group members said it's important for students to learn the history of their music.
"The music of the United States in large measure came out of Ireland and Scotland. Those two groups were some of the main settlers of this country and their music heavily influenced American music down through this day," said group members Richard Hughes and George Balderose.
The Zanesville Concert Association Foundation sponsored Monday's program.
