As the holidays draw near, so does the season of giving, and sometimes the best gift isn't the most expensive.
Big Brothers Big Sisters locally serves Muskingum, Morgan, Noble, and Perry Counties. In every county there are children waiting for their Big Brother or Big Sister to step forward. The organization is asking members of the community to give the year-round gift of time to those children, starting this holiday season.
"When we're talking about time it really doesn't take a lot of time to make an impact in a child's life." said Mollie Crooks, Big Brothers Big Sisters Executive Director. "To be a Big Brother or Big Sister, or even to do it as a family, we ask you to spend two times a month visiting your child, so basically you're matched with a child, go to their home, pick them up two times a month. If you are a volunteer in our school-based program, we ask you to spend one hour a week."
Crooks says being a Big doesn't have to be a big expense.
"Some of the best times Bigs and Littles spend together that make the biggest memories are probably some of the smallest gestures." she said. "So it might be making cookies together or going fishing or going shopping. Or riding in the car together."
Big and Little matches aren't just limited to one-on-one time. Crooks encourages families to come together to mentor a child. If you're interested in mentoring you can call 740-453-4300
