After two years of surveys and research, Muskingum County is ready to launch the community health improvement plan.
Over 40 county organizations have been working together assessing the overall health of the community. Nine goals developed from the assessment, some of which were concerns for obesity, maternal and child issues, but also more non-traditional health issues like housing, unemployment and income.
"We've worked in the community groups that are already working on those issues and their strategies and we've divided up into sub-groups and what they're doing today is just celebrating having the document done but then the real work begins now as the different agencies then try to have outcomes on those strategies," said Jody Stones of the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department.
This plan is the first of its kind for the county, it branches out to include organizations not directly associated with the health department.
"We have Job and Family Services, we have the housing authority, United Way, Genesis, the Health Center, our agency has quite a few people we have people from the fire department, city government it's just across a lot of different agencies," said Stones.
The next step is setting up a system spring 2013 to track the plan's progress.
