Head Start Hosts Family Feast

Thanksgiving is still a week away, but on Thursday families enjoyed a meal together.

It was all part of the the Muskingum County Head Start annual feast at Coburn United Methodist Church. The event offered a chance for all the pre-school children and their families to get together in one place and not only enjoy a hot meal but to also participate in educational activities.

"They're based on learning outcomes, and nutrition and things like that that are fun to do with kids at home that's still based on our education that we're trying to teach at Head Start," said Head Start Assistant Director, Stephanie Mills.

After the meal the children put on a performance. Every year the program attracts hundreds of families, both parents and children anxiously anticipate putting on the show.

"It's something they look forward to we even have grandparents that come so if they've had different children in the program they come and the families that have been with us in the past always look forward to coming," said Mills.

Head Start provides education, health and parent involvement services to low-income children and their families. The program currently serves 285 pre-schoolers, and are always looking to accept more.
