An author of over 50 children's books made a special visit to Zanesville.
Will Hillenbrand is originally from Cincinnati. He's the author of books such as "Down by the Station" and "Counting Crocodiles." He visited Maysville Elementary to visit with students.
"When an author comes to a school they see that the book is connected to a real person that is just like them," said Author Will Hillenbrand. "It makes all the rest of the collection come to life. It all becomes personal after that point."
Hillenbrand showed the kindergarten and first grade students a behind the scenes look at how the drawings for his books were created, how he got ideas for his stories and that not everything is perfect the first time.
"They might think that I draw and I make pictures and I do it the right way the very first time," explained Hillenbrand. "That's a myth. When I show them that I draw again, again and again they can see that when they do that, it's nothing different then what I do."
The author's visit is part of the school's celebration of Right to Read Week, which also included a family literacy night.
