Deer Check-in

Despite hunters being able to check their deer in on-line, locally check-in stations are seeing quite a few people walk through their doors.

At Dillon Falls Store, over 70 pictures of deer have taken over one wall of the business. That's how many deer owner Kathy McCann said they checked in on the first day. That's more than the first day last year. McCann said there's one part of the week she enjoys the most.

"Seeing the kids come in and the dad bringing them for the first time," said McCann. "Some for the first time are getting to take their kid out to hunt and helping them get their deer. Then older people, I think our oldest customer that comes in is 94-years-old. That's really cool to see."

While hunters can check their deer in on-line. McCann said that they must have a printer to do so. This is the second year for on-line check-in and she said it hasn't been bad for business.

"A lot of people tried it last year. They were okay with it at first but they really didn't like," said McCann. "They'd send pictures to us and say can you go ahead and put this on your wall. But, this year we've seen it increase where they go ahead and bring in their deer."

McCann said she expects the number of deer checked in to increase as the week ends because more people will be able to go out hunting this weekend.
