Zanesville Police said a second occupant who left the scene of a weekend fatal accident has been located.

The accident took place Saturday morning around 5:30a.m. in the 1000 block on Linden Avenue.

The car was traveling north when it struck a utility pole causing severe damage.

32-year-old April Smythe died of her injuries. The other occupant who fled the scene has now been found.

"We have talked to him," said Captain Tony Coury of the Zanesville Police Department. "We identified him as Michael Wood of Zanesville and our investigation continues."

Part of the investigation is to determine who was driving at the time of the accident.

"We have some other evidence in the car, some DNA evidence that we want to check and continue to work on that," explained Coury.

Smythe's body was taken to the Licking County Coronor's Office for an autopsy. Captain Coury said it could take 4-6 weeks to get any results.
