The Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department honors two nurses as they finish their careers.
After years of service, Sue Ballenger and Joan Hazard are retiring. The two have spent the better part of their nursing careers with the health department, Sue within the pediatric immunization department while Joan began hers visiting newborn babies at home, one thing she will never forget.
"That was really a lot of fun because I met a lot of people and I really miss that program. Because I went out with the new moms and visited a lot of them and that was so helpful, families enjoyed it as much as I did," said Hazard.
Sue and Joan have worked alongside each other for years now and they both agree the number one thing they will miss are the people within the health department.
"I'm really going to miss everyone, it's going to be sad to leave her but we'll keep in touch it's not quite the same but I've made some very close, close relationships with people here and we've been through a lot together so that makes it really special," said Ballenger.
Joan plans on spending her retirement with her seven grandchildren and Sue will spend the beginning of hers on the beach in California with her daughter.
