Deadliest Day for Alcohol-Related Crashes

As New Year's Eve approaches drivers are reminded to be safe on the road and use good judgment before getting behind the wheel.

On January 1st of this year, there were 103 crashes that involved alcohol. In an effort to protect the public against drunk drivers, AAA has announced its support of an in-car breathalyzer for all convicted DUI offenders.

"These ignition locks have been proven to save lives by reducing the number of impaired drivers on the road," said AAA Public Relations Manager, Kimberly Schwind.

The auto club also says another way to prevent drunk driving is by planning ahead. Designate a non-drinking driver before any party or celebration. Take the keys from friends and family who may be impaired and always be aware of yourself and other drivers while on the roadway.

"Make sure you take responsibility for yourself and others on the road even if you're not drinking. You still really want to look out on the road for other impaired drivers because they will be out there. And if you do spot one, have a passenger call 9-1-1, it's really up to all of us to keep the roads safe this New Year's," said Schwind.
