Seven newly elected Muskingum County officials take the oath of office at a special ceremony.
One by one Judge Mark Fleegle led the officials through the oath. Among them the new county coroner Dr. Charles Feight. Feight's term begins January 7th. He said he's most looking forward to working with his assistant coroner investigators, who will work on a part time basis.
"We're a county of 80,000 and the coroner's office is very important in terms of making sure that deaths are properly investigated," said Feight.
Sheriff Matt Lutz took the oath for a second term. He said in the next four years he would like to work with the city and discuss options for a new jail.
"Our jail is in pretty bad shape. It was built in 1974-1975. It was built for one floor and now we got four floors full of jail, so that's really a huge need for the county," explained Lutz.
All those sworn in say their goal is to make sure that all the government officials work together to build a better community. Along with Sheriff Lutz and Dr. Feight those sworn in include Engineer Doug Davis, Treasurer Carol Friel, Commissioners Jerry Lavy and Todd Sands and Recorder Cindy Rodgers
