With this winter's flu season being the worst the country has seen in years, Genesis Healthcare doctors are seeing up to 300 patients in their Emergency Rooms.
However, recently there has been a slight dip in the number of positive flu tests and admissions into the hospital but that will likely change.
Infection Control's Carla Reed said, "we really feel like this is just the ebbing of the first wave and we are going to see more. Anytime you see flu this early in the season, you can just bet it is going to be a rough and long flu season. "
The flu is highly contagious and can spread through the air at least 6 feet. Hospitals have placed visiting limitations to try to contain the flu and keep healthy patients well.
"The waiting rooms are very crowded, I cant imagine a worse place for a well person to be in the emergency room waiting room. You don't want to bring a kid in here if you can help it, you don't want to bring a well person in here and expose them to the bug," said Director David Davis.
Davis suggests the time to go to the ER is when you are experiencing shortness of breath, chest pains, high fever, or are in a high risk group such as children or elderly adults.
