The ballfields at Riverside Park in Zanesville will be under new management.
Zanesville has decided to release the care of the fields since the maintenance has become too expensive for the city to handle. The inability to have a full staff in the parks department and the expense of weekend tournaments at the park played a large role in turning the fields over to a representative from District 11 softball, who will put 20 percent of their net revenue back into complex improvements.
"That'll allow us to over time improve fences, concession stands, bleachers anything that's associated with that complex," said Public Service Directo, Mike Sims.
The three-year lease contract includes the six ball diamonds, the concession stand and the storage building. The rest of Riverside Park will continue to be run by the city.
"It's kind of a new wave we're not killing softball we're just passing the baton over to someone else to manage the facilities for us," said Sims.
The final agreements are still pending until the contract is officially signed by the law director.
