The Mayor of Zanesville took time before City Council Monday evening to discuss the State of the City.

During, his yearly address to the community the Mayor Jeff Tilton touched on ways the city has grown over the last year. The Zanesville Police Department has hired seven new police officers as well as seven new fire fighters and been able to upgrade the police force's radio system.

"Our officers now are able to run vehicle registrations, check on driving privileges and complete traffic reports from their vehicles," said Mayor Jeff Tilton. "This change in information retrieval protects our citizens from possible identity theft. Since, the office are able to communicate via radio waves to retrieve citizens information."

The city was also able to get grant funding to replace the stage curtains at Secrest Auditorium and complete other upgrades to the facility. Tilton said he has great hopes for the future.

"To all you here before me, I say thank-you for your time, your patronage and your cooperation because of the dedication and hard work of the employees of the City of Zanesville. We are progressing toward a thriving community," said Tilton. "I'm proud of the work we've accomplished this first year and I look forward to many positive things to follow."

Tilton also mentioned that the city's generator at the new water plant was able to hold up during this summer's storm and provide water to not only the city, but some of the county as well.
