It Can Wait

AT&T, AAA and the Ohio State Highway Patrol demonstrated during a school assembly that text messages should wait until after driving.

The assembly for 10th, 11th and 12th graders featured presentations and the screening of a ten-minute documentary called "The Last Text" . It shares real stories about lives altered or ended by the decision to text and drive. Then, students participated in a distracted driving simulator, providing actual in-vehicle experience of the dangers involved in texting while driving.

"Really difficult. I mean I know it's just a simulator but this stuff happens around the county and it's really real life and we shouldn't do this," said Zanesville High School senior, Jake Phillis.

Students and faculty also had a chance to take a pledge as part of the "It Can Wait" campaign agreeing to not text while driving.

"We understand that it's just a pledge but the pledge can have a lot of impact because it does give you that moment to pause and think what you're doing if it makes one student at this school think twice before picking up their phone to text when they're on they're way driving somewhere this afternoon then it's been successful," said AT&T spokesperson, Holly Hollingsworth.
