It's time to announce the Z.A.A.P. Gallery's featured artist of the month for March.
Irene Baron is a geologist, meteorologist and astronomer. Her love of rocks and minerals is portrayed in her artwork which is a mixture of multimedia watercolor and colored pencil. Her unique take on the rocks and gems that she paints is what separates her art from others.
"What I do is put them under a microscope, see what is in there and then I use a little bit of artist license and change it just a little bit to make it a little more artistic," said Baron.
Z.A.A.P. Gallery is also getting recognition. The downtown gallery is the Artist Colony's artist of the month. A new feature the artist colony is trying to highlight this month is a map that shows all their locations in Zanesville.
"I think all the galleries will have at least one of these or will have lots of people that can instruct where to go from here, where would you like to go, what would you like to see, and there are many galleries that will be open so it will be fun," said Baron.
Z.A.A.P's First Friday Art Walk will start at 5 p.m. but the family friendly gallery will open their doors at 1 for anyone who wants to stop in before the show.
