Spring might be near, but you’d never know it in Ohio and other parts of the Midwest. The National Weather Service has put most of the buckeye state under either a Winter Storm Warning or Winter Weather Advisory from 11 a.m. Tuesday to 1 p.m. Wednesday. That is because the biggest storm of the winter is now sweeping through the Midwest. Here is the updated forecast from Whiz Storm Team Meteorologist Phil Sakal:
Tuesday: Cloudy. A Wintry Mix to Rain Showers. High 40
TONIGHT: Cloudy. Rain to Snow. Accumulations of 2 to 4". Low 32
Wednesday: Cloudy. AM Snow Showers. Accumulations of 1 to 3". High 37
*A Winter Storm Warning is now in effect for Muskingum, Coshocoton, Guersney, Noble, Tuscarawas, Knox, Licking and Fairfield Counties until midday Wednesday*
*A Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect for Perry and Morgan Counties until 1 PM Wednesday*
This storm remains a difficult one to forecast because the type of precipitation we see will depend on the exact track of the area of low pressure. Right now a light wintry mix looks to be developing by late morning and into the early afternoon today. Warmer air will begin to move into the area during the mid afternoon and will change any wintry mix over to liquid rain showers. The precipitation will be light for most of the day, but will become steadier and heavier by this evening for the majority of the region. Highs will be in the upper 30s to near 40.
Tonight colder air will wrap in around the area of low pressure and change the rain back over to snow around midnight tonight. Snow accumulations will range from 2 to 4 inches, with a few areas, mainly north of I-70 possibly receiving 3 to 6 inches by Wednesday afternoon. Temperatures will be dropping into the lower 30s tonight.
The snow will begin to taper off early Wednesday afternoon and will finally begin to move out of the region by the end of the afternoon as the low continues to move eastward. Temperatures will be a bit colder Wednesday afternoon, with highs in the mid 30s.
Have a Great Tuesday!
