Flood Event Saturday

Memorabilia and photographs of the 1913 flood will be on display Saturday in Zanesville.

At the John McIntire Library an event will be held where people can look at things left behind by the flood and photographs of the devastation. There will also be a discussion in which the community is encouraged to take part.

"People are encouraged and invited to share their personal stories," said Assistant Director Blair Tom. "Many people have stories their parents and grandparents have told them for over the years, so it's really that oral history part of this whole commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the 1913 flood."

Tom said it's this history that shows us where where Muskingum County has been and why it continues to be such a tight knit community.

"I think it's important to know our roots and learn our history and learn from it, what was done very well, coming together, helping, and also the outcome of the water conservancy and the dam system and also it's just important to know our stories, our family stories, our family biologically and family as a community," said Tom.

The event Saturday runs from 1p.m. until 5 p.m. with the panel discussion starting at 3 p.m. this is the first of two other Saturday events to commemorate the 1913 flood.
