One organization is trying to help women students in our area.

The Zanesville Business and Professional Women are searching for applicants for the 2013 Elliott Scholarship. While any women currently enrolled or who are enrolling in college or a certificate program can apply, special attention is paid to the non-traditional students.

"We have a special focus," said Scholarship Chair Tracy Rector. "We love to recognize the women who have gone back to work, who have done things throughout their life and have overcome obstacles, so that is if we have an applicant that meets those qualifications they certaintly will be given special consideration."

This year a $500 scholarship and two $250 scholarships will be awarded. Rector said choosing winners is sometimes difficult.

"It's a nice feeling to be part of this process where you get to look through the hundreds of applications of wonderfully qualified people and see it's all right here in Muskingum County. All the money we raised stays here and benefits a local person going back to school," said Rector.

Applications can be picked up at area high schools or by contacting any BPW member or by emailing Tracy Rector at tracy.rector@zandex.com You can also call (740) 452-2087.

Applications are due April 20.
