Residents from all over Muskingum County walked the the track at the Franklin Local Track Complex to give cancer the boot.
"Our mini Relay is just an abbreviated event. We are considered a team at the Muskingum County Relay for Life and this is how we choose to raise our money for that main relay," said Lu Ann Gatewood of the Franklin Local School District.
Local Boy Scouts and Girl Scout troops, students from Roseville, Philo and Duncan Falls, as well as members of the Lions Club sold food and drinks to help raise money to meet the team's goal of five-thousand dollars. The event remembers those who have lost the battle to cancer and honors those who have survived.
"I got the first crown I've ever had in my life. I have a sphere but it's over there. It was just the honor of representing the District and all of the survivors everywhere," said two-time cancer survivor, Janet Slack.
All of the money raised from Saturday's Relay for Life will go to the American Cancer Society.
