Former Ohio Congressman Charlie Wilson has passed away this afternoon in a Florida hospital following complications associated with a stroke suffered in February.
Born in Dillonvale, Ohio in 1943 and educated at Ohio University in Athens, Wilson was a Representative for the Ohio House from 1996 to 2004, followed by two years in the Ohio Senate. In 2006 he won a historic write-in campaign, filling the congressional seat vacated by Governor Ted Strickland.
As an advocate for the people of eastern Ohio, he secured four hundred million in federal funding for the 6th district, which went to police departments, airports and small businesses. Wilson was the father of four sons and grandfather to nine.
